Chris Evans: ‘Let’s not take the Mickey’ Virgin Radio host issues warning to listeners

Chris Evans, 53, urged people to stay at home over the weekend, despite the temperature soaring into the 20s. The government worried that the warm weather over the past two days would encourage people to venture outside regardless of the UK coronavirus lockdown that was enforced two weeks ago.

But bear in mind, let’s not take the Mickey – get out there for your exercise, but let’s not take the Michael because we need our hour of exercise

Chris Evans

With many celebrities using their platforms to implore fans to follow the rules, Chris was among them, warning listeners “not to take the Mickey”.

While discussing the upcoming weekend on Friday’s show, the former BBC host reiterated the important message.

“It’s going to be gorgeous over the weekend,” he said.

“It’s going to be very nice for many of us on Sunday, with highs of 21 degrees!

“But bear in mind, let’s not take the Mickey – get out there for your exercise, but let’s not take the Michael because we need our hour of exercise.”

He noted that the UK’s situation could get a lot worse than our current state if people didn’t follow the rules.

“We are in a soft lockdown, it could be a lot more severe if we don’t do what we’re supposed to do, which is stay home, stay safe, help the NHS and save lives!”

The UK coronavirus death toll now stands at an estimated 4,934, and according to the Department of Health, the number who have tested positive across the UK as of 9am on Sunday, now stands at 47,806.

In Sunday’s daily coronavirus briefing, health secretary Matt Hancock also made clear that if people continue to break the rules, there could be consequences for us all.

He implored people not to venture outside unnecessarily despite the warm weather, and confirmed that sunbathing was against the rules as the temperatures are set to sky rocket once again this coming week.

It comes after pictures emerged of police forces up and down the country dispersing sunbathers in parks and other public areas who were lapping up the rays.

The West Suffolk MP warned that if people flout them, “we might have to take further action”.

Chris repeated his point from earlier in the week, where he slammed people who were complaining about staying at home.

Under the circumstances, the ex-Top Gear presenter wasn’t best pleased.

“For most of us, it should be more than bearable,” he snapped, before structuring a scenario where the same rules apply, but in a different situation.

“Imagine if you were at home on a Sunday night and it’s a school night, no wine for the grown-ups, and then your boss calls you at, let’s say 4:30-5:30pm on a Sunday,” he began.

“They say ‘Do you fancy the week off? There’s one condition – you have to stay home with your kids.'”

He continued: “So, you can go out once a day to get food and you can go for a bike ride every single day. But other than that you have to stay at home.”

He paused for a second to let it sink in before making his final point.

“You’d jump at the chance, wouldn’t you?!”

He did however, sympathise with people who have specific circumstances that would make quarantine particularly difficult.

“For some people with child care, absolutely I get it and for people who’s income – I get all that.”

“But for a lot of other people – shut up honestly. Let’s just get on with it.”

The Chase: Mark Labbett delivers brutal dig to contestants ‘None of you did well!’

The Chase usually airs weekdays on ITV as it remains on of the UK’s favourite TV quiz shows. The show has been airing some extra episodes at weekends in recent weeks and tonight it was back for another edition of The Family Chase. However, the Walmsley family went home empty-handed after Mark issued a huge dig towards the team this evening.

The family edition of The Chase was back this evening as another family were up at the podium to try and beat The Chaser.

This evening, the Walmsley family from Leyland were up against Mark Labbett in a bid to take home a generous sum of money.

Andrew, Becky, Holly and Emily joined together to face The Beast as Holly was the first to take on the cash builder round.

She managed to get two questions correct, sticking with the middle offer against Mark, despite him offering her £20,000.

However, she was soon knocked out after a string of difficult questions in the head-to-head and it was her aunt Becky’s turn to face The Beast.

Becky fared better, gaining four correct answers in her first quick-fire round and once again, decided to stick with what she had earnt.

The player managed to make it through to the Final Chase, hoping some of her other family members would soon be joining her.

Player Emily suffered the same fate as her sister and was knocked out after he head-to-head with Mark, leaving dad Andrew up last.

Andrew showed off some good knowledge in his cash builder round and The Beast returned, giving him a tempting high offer of £56,000.

When it came to considering which sum of money to take, Becky said: “I know it’s tempting but please don’t leave me alone!”

The player threw a curveball, telling host Bradley Walsh: “I know I’m going to be hated but I’m going to go for £1,000

However, Mark couldn’t resist a brutal dig to the team, remarking: “At last, somebody’s thinking sensible, you all should’ve gone low or gone high.

Andrew subsequently made it through to the Final Chase alongside Becky and the duo managed to get a respectable 17 steps ahead of The Chaser

Upon his return, Mark was more complimentary, telling the duo: “Well you’ve made a game of it, where did that come from? It’s in the fun zone – well played.”

Unfortunately, their performance in the Final Chase didn’t stop them from being caught as Mark outran them with just 16 seconds remaining, meaning they failed to leave with the £5,000 jackpot they had earnt.

Upon the girl’s return, player Holly noted: “Did better on them [questions] than my cash builder!”

As Bradley handed back to Mark, The Chaser concluded: “One more person in that team would’ve made the difference I think. An extra point or two and suddenly the pressure’s on.”

One Direction REUNION odds slashed yet again as Harry Styles confirms he’s recording

One Direction began their hiatus four years ago following the departure of Zayn Malik. But despite each of the five members — Malik, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan — launching their solo careers, fans are absolutely convinced this is the year the boyband will reunite. Now, bookies have strengthened that resolve with another price change.

Ladbrokes have cut odds on a One Direction happening before the year is out from 1/2 to just 4/9 since the start of the week.

With the bookmaker’s indicating the comeback is looking even more likely, is there a chance 1D fans could finally get their wish?

Earlier this week, Ladbrokes spokesman Alex Apati told Express.co.uk: “One Direction are far from History if the latest odds are anything to go by, with a 2020 reunion being the One Thing fans can seemingly look forward to this year.”

The bookies’ move comes as former One Direction star Styles has revealed he’s recording new music after news he was writing again amid the coronavirus lockdown.

The Falling hitmaker, who released his second solo album back in December, is currently stuck in California, unable to fly home due to the isolation and lockdown measures put in place to suppress the spread of COVID-19.

Having recently said he was using the time to compose new music, Styles told Dermot O’Leary he had also been recording during an interview on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show this week.

Opening up about how he was coping with the lockdown, he said: “I’ve worked here a lot so I have friends here and stuff, and I’m lucky enough to be quarantining with a couple of friends.

“We all started at the same time, with each other, which was nice.

“I’m trying to have sort of a routine. So I get up and do some sort of exercise and then I’ll do some writing and then record a little bit, do some reading, go for a walk,” he continued, adding that the friends he is quarantining with were also working from home.

Styles previously opened the door a crack to the possibility the reunion rumours could be true by confirming he was working on new material.

“I’ve been writing so much,” he told Zane Lowe for Apple Music. “To be honest, I’m doing some of the stuff that I should be doing more often anyway.

“I should be playing the guitar more. I should be writing poems and lyrics more. So I’ve been doing that.”

While Styles didn’t give anything away as to who the new songs were being penned for, there’s the chance they could end up in the hands of One Direction if the band get back together.

Of course, with the success of his solo career, it’s likely his efforts are going in to the next chapter of that following the great reception his second album Fine Line received in recent months.

One Direction suffered their first blow back in 2015 when Malik made the shock announcement he was leaving the group.

The band carried on as a four-piece, releasing their fifth studio album Made in the A.M. and embarking on a final tour.

However, later that year they told fans they would be going on hiatus, with Tomlinson saying the break would last around 18 months.

Reports soon surfaced the hiatus would in fact be a permanent split.

In the years since, each member has addressed the possibility of a reunion on multiple occasions, largely keeping their answers vague.

Horan recently said he thought a reunion was “inevitable” and, on the whole, his former bandmates seem to agree, often teasing the possibility of a comeback in interviews as they focus on their solo careers in the meantime.

Line of Duty season 6: Steve Arnott to die saving Kate as fans makes big finale prediction

Line of Duty fans were disappointed when show creator Jed Mercurio announced filming for season six would be halted due to the coronavirus pandemic sweeping the UK and putting the cast and crew at risk. With the next instalment’s release date probably being pushed back a couple of months, it hasn’t stopped the BBC drama’s loyal fans speculating over to what’s to come, as well as theorising how the whole show is going to end.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from seasons one to five of Line of Duty.

“Mother of God”, the finale episode of season five left viewers cheering, but also demanding explanations as the storyline took them in a direction they didn’t expect with one hell of a cliffhanger.

Line of Duty finales tend to throw everything at the wall, and this time it was no different as those watching at home were treated to an extremely length interrogation.

The conclusion saw Gill Biggeloe (Polly Walker) confirmed as the corrupt senior member of police staff, largely responsible for John Corbett’s (Stephen Graham) vendetta against the AC-12 chief.

  • Line of Duty season 6: H’s identity revealed in spoiler?

Scenes showed the Police and Crime Commissioner’s legal advisor secretly linked with the Organised Crime Group and was a key player in the plot to frame Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar).

Not only did she recommend Corbett for the undercover operation, also know as Pear Tree, but also convinced him Hastings was the reason for his mother, Anne-Marie McGillis, who was murdered by paramilitary forces.

Despite these major breakthroughs, the season didn’t clear up all the show’s major mysteries, leaving fans to speculate.

One of them being the most ridiculous out-of-the-blue relationship DI Matthew ‘Dot’ Cottan (Craig Parikinson) was tapping out Morse code to DI Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) as he died.

This was a new piece of information for the biggest investigation; Who is ‘H’?

In a twist similar to the identity of ‘Balaclava Man’ in the fourth series, it turns out ‘H’ is not one person, but a group.

Before dying from his wounds, Cottan delivered a dying declaration, which was recorded on an officer’s helmet camera, but his message was initially misinterpreted.

At the end of the fifth series finale, DI Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) Cottan not only using his eyes to send officers a signal: “Dot was trying to tell us something before he lost consciousness.

“He couldn’t speak due to the gunshot wound to his chest, but he could move his hand,” he revealed.

“Tap tap tap tap. Tap tap tap tap. It’s Morse code. Dot dot dot dot.”

“The letter H in Morse code is four dots,” added Steve. “‘H’ is not an initial, it’s a clue. Four dots. Four caddies. Four police staff in league with organised crime.”

In other words, the dying declaration wasn’t trying to expose one individual whose name starts with ‘H’. Cottan was trying to say there were four key OCG members embedded in the police service – their names don’t necessarily start with that letter.

Fans now know Assistant Chief Constable Derek Hilton, legal counsel Gill Biggeloe and Cottan himself were three out of the four, so it’ll be AC-12’s job to find out the identity of the fourth.

But in doing so, some fans think Steve, Kate or Ted is going to heroically die.

Taking to online forum Reddit to discuss, user Xmaspay asked Line of Duty fans how they think the whole show is going to end.

“Spoilers no doubt in the comments so if you are not up to date (waiting for season 6) then beware.

“Wit the way the world is currently we may have a long wait to this question, but I’m guessing we have 2 seasons left (pure guess) to wrap it all up, BBC will no doubt want more seasons as it’s one of the biggest shows they have but I can’t see it running for longer then 2 more unless we find out more people called H spring up randomly. (morse code gate 2.0 if you will).

“Seriously tho I reckon of the main 3 die, Steve the likely candidate saving Kate I’d guess? and in the end we find out Kate was the whole mastermind behind it all and she gets away with it, can’t see it and probably wouldn’t make much sense but still lol.

“We all know this show has many plot twists so I’m aware that none of us will probably get it spot on but eh could be fun to look back on in a few years and see how we all did!” The post concluded.

User irving_braxiatel replied: “The sentimentalist in me wants it to end with Steve taking over AC-12, and the last scene being him introducing a new sergeant, asking if it’s Richard or Rick.”

“I’m rewatching again for the 4th (or 5th) time. I’m hoping there’ll be another couple of series. I’ve always felt the ‘H’ thing is not one but a hierarchy of individuals and that’s what the ‘H’ likely stands for. No one person could surely be running this corrupt group alone, could they?” User Gottabered said.

While Origamidos commented: “I really hope it’s super well planned out and there’s s great twist at the end rather than just, oh lol yeah it was Hastings or something. Really excited tho!”

Gavin and Stacey: What time is Gavin and Stacey on tonight?

Gavin and Stacey fans were sad to see the series finish on the BBC after season three back in 2010, after falling in love with the families from Essex and Wales. The popular series was written by James Corden, who stars in the series as Smithy, and Ruth Jones who stars as Nessa. The much-loved characters will be returning to our screens tonight, but not in the way some fans may think.

Will there be another series of Gavin and Stacey?

Gavin and Stacey saw huge success when it was airing between 2007 and 2010 on BBC Three and BBC One.

Then nine years later, fans were treated to a Christmas special, which aired on BBC One on Christmas Day in 2019 and attracted more than 18 million viewers.

The series was the most nominated show at the British Comedy Awards when it started in 2007 and has since won several more awards.

The show follows the relationship between Gavin (Matthew Horne) from Essex and Stacey (Joanna Page) from Wales, and includes their two best friends Nessa and Smithy.

In the Christmas special, Gavin and Stacey had three children and Smithy started a new relationship with Sonia (Laura Aikman).

He had planned to propose to her on Christmas Day but she realises Smithy is not the man for her and leaves the Christmas party early.

Smithy is disappointed but Nessa takes the opportunity to tell Smithy she loves him in an iconic scene, and she proposes to him.

The special ended on a cliffhanger and fans were left wondering whether Smithy had answered ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to the proposal.

With the suspense still in the air, fans are wondering whether the creators will produce another series or special episode revealing Smithy’s answer.

Bohemian Rhapsody and The Greatest Showman topped by THIS movie musical in new record

The Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and Hugh Jackman’s The Greatest Showman are two of the most successful movie musicals in recent years. Both films have green splats for the critics on Rotten Tomatoes but were huge box office and home release successes with fans. However, another movie musical has topped their records.

The billion-dollar smash Frozen 2 has managed to surpass both Bohemian Rhapsody and The Greatest Showman in the Official Film Chart UK.

The Disney movie is now the second fastest-selling digital download film of all time and the most successful animated feature and musical in that chart ever.

Frozen 2 is only in its second week of home release and is No 1 once again.

Having seen 110,000 downloads the week, the animated musical has a total of 328,000 as of now.

Based on its first two weeks in the chart, Frozen 2 has not only surpassed Bohemian Rhapsody and The Greatest Showman but also Avengers Infinity War.

However, it was just 88,000 downloads behind the highest-grossing movie of all time in Avengers Endgame.

This is a huge triumph for Disney, who made Frozen 2 and own Marvel Studios who created the two Avengers blockbusters.

Similarly, the House of Mouse has acquired Fox, who produced both Bohemian Rhapsody and The Greatest Showman – so the studio is also enjoying those profits.

As it stands, Frozen 2 is the 10th highest-grossing movie of all time.

The Disney movie has made over $1.45 billion at the box office to date.

This makes the sequel the most successful animated film ever.

In comparison, the original movie (which used to hold that title itself) was fifth on the all-time list.

It is important to note the hiatus between episodes had always been planned by The CW and has not been affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The episode – titled: Wicked Little Town – is supposedly going to be the much-anticipated musical episode of the season.

While each season contains a musical-focussed episode, this year will see the cast and crew taking on Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

Episode 17’s synopsis gives further details about the episode, and the perils the cast will be seeing.

It reads: “When Mr Honey forbids Kevin from performing a musical number from Hedwig and the Angry Inch, he and the gang rally against their principal – by each performing a number from Hedwig, turning the Variety Show into a full-fledged musical.”

In the meantime, fans have been scouring older episodes of the teen drama in search of mistakes in the show’s narrative.

Betty and Archie have spoken about living next to one another frequently and have also spotted each other through their windows.

But as their numbers aren’t adjacent, could the pair have been wrong all along? Or is it simply an oversight on the writers’ part?
